I have a wee soft spot for anything sweet so today I’ve whipped up some yummy wee treats for my best buds birthday and I’m sure she won’t want to share any! The great part about these treats is that you can make the recipe up on the way, so todays ones are -’Oreo Choco Truffles’. 

Recipe: 

Combined in a blender:

1/2 packet Oreo Biscuits 

1/2 packet Wine Biscuits 

1/2 cup chocolate buttons (I like white choco for this)

Once the ingredients above has broken down into crumbs (not to fine) add..

1/2 cup mini marshmallows cut into thirds

1/3 cup Condensed Milk  

2 Tablespoons Lite Cream Cheese

If the mixture is to dry just add a small amount of water. Roll mixture into small balls (wet hands will help) and place in the fridge for 10-20mins. Melt 1 cup of chocolate in the microwave or on the stove then coat truffle balls with chocolate. Today I tried covering them in choco sprinkles before the chocolate hardened, which turned out great. Tip: Hayley would always say “taste while you make” :p

I just wanted to share some screen printing that I did on Monday. I’ve fallen in love with the band fun. and being in New Zealand, postage for goods is usually a bomb, which I can’t afford just yet, so I made my own fun. hoodie!

All you need for such a task is some card, making tape, double sided tape, a good sharp craft knife, fabric paint, a screen and a squeegee, a blank tee/hoodie/whatever and some news paper. Oh and a spoon!

Cut your stencil out using craft knife and card, if its easier you can print out your design on regular paper but glue or tape it to the card and then cut it out.

Tape your stencil face down onto the back of your screen, mine was a big open circle so to prevent paint slipping under the stencil I put some double sided tape around the diameter of the circle. Then I put the ‘fun.’ text in the middle of the circle, also making sure it was securely double sided down, which looked something like this…

The next step us to organize your garment that the print is going onto, lay it onto a flat surface, also put something flat inside the garment to prevent the print going through to the other side! I used a sketch book and some news paper. If you have a proper work station you could clamp the screen down in place, but if you don’t you’ll need to find an extra set if hands to hold the screen down for you.
Then apply the fabric paint in a slither above the stencil, you’ll need to use your instincts on how much to use, as I’m self taught and have no idea myself! Once you’ve got that all ready to, grab your squeegee and run it over the stencil with a pulling down motion, you’ll need to be quite firm and don’t go to slowly. I had to run the squeegee over a few times to make sure the paint was evenly distributed.

The next step is to carefully lift your screen off the garment and place the garment in a safe place to dry. Once dried you’ll need to iron it to “fix” it, follow the instructions for this on your paint of choice.

Here’s the final result of a good few hours in the darkroom with stencils, cut outs and prints from the childhood classic, ‘Where The Wild Things Are’.

A few hours of playing around, a little imagination and thinking outside the box, a hint of problem solving and you have something that you are really proud of.

Take wooden letters and glue onto a canvas, paint away and wa-la!

Take a trip to your local Warehouse and get a stack of lettered stickers.
Put on to a canvas or wood block, paint over top and peel back the stickers once it is dry.
Easy as, and perfect lettering.

Today I made Lamington Cupcakes. Recipe by Donna Hay.

LAMINGTON CUPCAKES

125g butter
3/4 cup caster sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 1/4 cups plain flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup milk
150g dark chocolate, chopped
1/2 cup pouring cream
1 cup desiccated coconut

Preheat oven to 160C. Place the butter, sugar and vanilla in an electric mixer and beat until pale and creamy. Add the eggs gradually, beating well after each addition, until combined. Add the flour, baking powder and milk and beat until just combined.

Spoon the mixture into 12 x 1/2-cup capacity muffin tins lined with paper patty cases and bake for 20–25 minutes or until cooked when tested with a skewer. Cool on a wire rack. Place the chocolate and cream in a small saucepan over low heat and stir until melted and glossy. Refrigerate until cool. Spread the cooled cupcakes with the chocolate and sprinkle with coconut to serve. Makes 12.

Unsure of what a actual Lamington is.. It is a soft individual sponge cake covered in icing usually chocolate or strawberry and covered in coconut.
They are a fantastic treat to go along side a nice up of tea and bickies.
